Technologies news and Events at RECO-RWASCO

RECO & RWASCO is at the vanguard of using information communication technologies to better serve the customer.  Our use of technologies over the recent times has dramatically improved consumer access to the services we provide.  We are increasingly reaching the consumer better and conveniently, something we shall strive to continue doing. The following technologies are currently in use:

  1. Bills @mobile is a service enabling customers to check their monthly water bill on their mobile phone;

  2. Live billing is an appliance the meter reader to immediately bill the customer at the client premises; and

  3. Portable water leakage detectors are appliances that reduce losses by discovering water pipe leaks. 


For almost 3 years now, RECO & RWASCO has outsourced its prepayment sales through retailers and super-dealers. To provide this special outsourcing service to an even broader public, RECO  &RWASCO is constantly on the lookout for new technology innovations.  The Main software programs and appliances for retailers and super-dealers’ use include:

  1. e-vend and e-eng are computer programs used by prepayment retailers and are operational on a laptop with internet access and a printer.

  2. Cell Power is an SMS interface programmed on the cell phone allowing prepayment selling by retailers operating in remote regions with no Internet access.

  3. Scratch cards.  Retailers sell these directly to customers. Customers open the purchased scratch card (envelope) and send by SMS the written code to 123, they automatically get a reply with a token equivalent to the purchased electricity amount to be keyed into the meter.

  4. Points of sales are wireless-internet-connection appliances enabling prepayment selling by the super-dealer. Customers receive a receipt upon electricity payment. Find points of sales.

The following Technologies are coming soon and many more will be implemented: 

  1. Mobile banking will enable customers to purchase electricity using the SMS service of their mobile phone by withdrawing money from the customer’s bank account.

  2. Mobile Money will enable customers to purchase prepayment electricity using MTN credits of their mobile phone.

  3.  Accessibility of Customer Account on Internet for invoicing, assistance and information
