1939: REGIDESO is founded in the then colonial RWANDA-URUNDI, with its Headquarters in Bujumbura.

1963:  REGIDESO is separated into REGIDESO (Rwanda) and REDESCO (Burundi).

1976:  Under Decree n° 18/76 of 20th April 1976, REGIDESO Rwanda became ELECTROGAZ and was granted monopoly for the production and distribution of water and electricity for 99 years.

1999:  Under Law n° 18/99 of 30th August 1999, the ELECTROGAZ monopoly was removed and the sector liberalized.

2003:  ELECTROGAZ was placed under a management contract with Lahmayer International to manage and restructure ELECTROGAZ in collaboration with Hamburg Water Works for 5 years.

2006:   The management contract was terminated on 31st March 2006 and it reverted to the Government of Rwanda through the Board of Directors and the Management of the company.

2009:   ELECTROGAZ was split into RECO (Electricity) and RWASCO (Water).
